Hello and thankyou for visiting my page. My name is Lukas Teasdale and I am a Port Douglas based professional wedding and lifestyle photographer. I believe photography is a way of telling stories and I will spend the day trying to tell that story the best I can! It's about capturing moments....moments that can be shared for generations to come. I have a relaxed shooting style as well as a focus on natural light and candid images. I seek to capture the effortless laughs, the raw emotion, the hidden moments and all the beautiful details of your special day. Whilst I love to step back and let the moments happen naturally, I will also be there to offer my direction and knowledge in helping you feel comfortable during your shoot time. Each and every wedding is totally unique and I enjoy getting to know each couple prior to their wedding and gaining an understanding of what images are most important to them. I absolutely love what I do and I feel so honoured to be trusted to capture the story of a couple's most important day.
My Story
So a little bit about my story and how I ended up doing what I'm doing. I am a father of 4 beautiful children and my wife and I have just celebrated 23 years together. I am originally from Sydney but moved to Melbourne to complete a plastering apprenticeship with my father. After living in Melbourne for a few years my wife and I decided (one cold and miserable Melbourne day) that we needed a little sea change to Queensland and one of my friends suggested Port Douglas. I was playing AFL back in those days and spoke to the local AFL club (Port Douglas Crocs) about playing a season with them. They were keen so a week later my wife and I packed up and moved here in our little Toyota Echo (not very roomy or comfortable for a 6'9" man let me tell you!!). Right from the start we loved it here and this became home. We built a house, started a family and got married. I was plastering at this stage but in my spare time I enjoy breeding and watching birds so I purchased a camera to photograph my birds......and I realised I loved photography!!! I was in my absolute element behind the lens. From birds I turned to photographing the AFL team and other local sporting clubs and sending my images into the local paper (Gazette). I was persistent and they soon featured one of my photos on their back page. I was over the moon! I soon became a feature photographer for them and photographed various local events and was loving every minute. One day a beautiful local couple asked me if I would photograph their wedding and I was very honest with them about being new to photography and not having photographed a wedding before but they trusted me and I'm so thankful they did. That day was nerve racking, exciting, exhausting, exhilarating and overall amazing and I came home telling my wife that this is what I wanted to do. I wanted to make the transition from plasterer to full time wedding and lifestyle photographer. I researched equipement and bought everything I would need to start, I studied photography courses in Cairns and online, I practiced, practiced, practiced, I set up a website and social media sites and slowly the wedding bookings started to come in. And the rest they say is history. Here I am doing what I absolutely love, in paradise, with my beautiful family.....how lucky am I?!!
